- Assistant Transport Controller
£23,000 a yearOur client is looking to recruit one Assistant Transport Controller The ideal candidate will be responsible for the standard of service that our client delivers to its customers.
You will be responsible for efficiently planning and coordinate the organisations transport operations. The role will be directly reporting to the Transport Manager and working closely with the Transport Controllers.
To be successful in the role, you will need to have proved experience of building customer relationships. Flexibility of working hours is essential as due to the nature of the business, there may be occasions in which staff will need to work additional hours to support the company.
Job Duties
- Completing a handover for the next Assistant Transport Controller on the following shift
- Conduct daily briefings and debriefings
- Ensure drivers signatures are obtained and paperwork is promptly returned
- Responding to delays, short shipments or blow outs
- Making sure the departure/ arrival schedule is up to date
- Certify all vehicles and trailers are allocated to the correct routes
- Updating of the transports management system
- Confirm drivers complete their vehicle checks daily
- Taking reports of defects, damages and accidents
- Ensuring full compliance is met
- Informing drivers of Tachograph infringements
- Liaising with sub-contractors
- Dealing with any custome
- Monitor the real time performance of the drivers and the fleet
- Complete office administration
- Ensuring fleet is clean and tidy
- Provide flexible cover to support the department
People Management Job Duties:
- Conduct back to work interviews
- Complete induction paperwork for temporary drivers
- Monitor drivers performance
- Identify and liaise with the driver trainer on any training issues
Health and safety:
- Ensure safe and clean working practices
- Recording of relevant H&S paperwork
- Ensure faults or hazards are reported
- Make sure facilities are safe and secure at all times
- Ensure staff and visitors wear PPE
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of transport policies, legislation and procedures. Ideally will also be a holder of National CPC and/ or a Class 1 licence. Own transport is required for this position.
You will have experience with Microsoft office preferably have knowledge of using a transport management system. Good geographical knowledge is also a key skill to have. Candidates must be flexible and be open to working additional hours occasionally.
